Dr. Sharon Griffin, the chief of schools for Shelby County Schools, will become the new head of the state-run Achievement School District.  The State Department of Education made the announcement early Tuesday.  Dr. Griffin will start her new job May 1.  Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dorsey Hopson announced that in the interim, Dr. Angela Whitelaw will assume the Chief of Schools role as a search for a permanent replacement begins.

As part of her responsibilities, Dr. Griffin managed the SCS Innovation Zone Schools.  She was Tennessee’s 2015-16 Supervisor of the year.
